Chattel (Aviation) Mortgage
An Aviation Mortgage (technically known as a Chattel Mortgage) is the gold standard for aircraft acquisition in the UK. Unlike Hire Purchase, where the lender holds the keys until the final payment, an Aviation Mortgage puts the title in your name from Day 1.
This is the most popular choice for General Aviation (GA) because it offers the most freedom for the buyer. Because you are the legal owner from day one, you have “pride of ownership” and full control.
How it works
01
Priority Notice (CA1330)
We file this with the CAA 14 days before closing. It “reserves” your spot in the register, ensuring no other debt can be placed on the plane while funds are moving.
02
Lien Search (CA350)
We perform a deep search of the UK Mortgage Register to ensure the aircraft you are buying is free of any “zombie” debts from previous owners.
03
Mortgage Entry (CA1577)
Once the deal is funded, we register the lender’s “charge” against the aircraft. This protects both you and the lender, creating a clean legal history for the aircraft.
Why Choose an Aviation Mortgage?
For the modern-day pilot, the mortgage is the most flexible tool in the hangar. It offers a level of autonomy that other finance products simply cannot match.
Immediate Legal Ownership
You are the registered owner on the CAA G-INFO database which means that the aircraft is your asset, appearing on you or your company’s balance sheet immediately.
Operational Freedom
You have full control over maintenance schedules, upgrades, and where the aircraft is based, provided it remains in an airworthy condition.
Capital Allowances
In 2026, UK tax incentives for “Green Assets” are at an all-time high. Owning the asset through a mortgage allows you to claim First Year Allowances on qualifying energy-saving aircraft and retrofits.
Flexibility for Upgrades
Want to swap a legacy engine for a high-efficiency Rotax or an electric unit mid-term? As the owner, you have the right to modernise your aircraft, and Samera Sky can often restructure your mortgage to fund these improvements.
